Carlos Henrique Casimiro (born February 23, 1992), also known as Casemiro, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays defensive midfield for Premier League club Manchester United and was a captain for the Brazil national team.

He is regarded as one of the world’s top defensive midfielders, with defensive talents, ball-winning skills, and tackles. He was selected for the FIFA FIFPro World XI in 2022.

Casemiro started his career at São Paulo and rose through the ranks. He had 11 goals in 111 games as a midfielder for the club.

Real Madrid was impressed by his defensive qualities, and he signed on loan with the club in January 2013.

During his loan with Real Madrid Castilla, he played 15 games. Real Madrid then bought him permanently for a sum of £5.1 million, and he joined their first-team squad at the Santiago Bernabéu.

After joining Real Madrid, Casemiro failed to break into the first squad. He was loaned to FC Porto for €15 million to increase his playing time.

Carlos Henrique Casimiro was born on February 23, 1992, in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, under the sign of Cancer. Casimiro was born into a family from the lower middle class.

His parents are Faria Casemiro (Mother) and Servando Casimiro (Father). He is named after his father.

International Career

Casemiro made his senior debut for Brazil on September 14, 2011, in a 0-0 draw against Argentina, at the age of 19.

Dunga named him to the Brazilian roster for the 2015 Copa América, although he did not participate in the quarterfinals in Chile.

On May 5, 2016, he was named to the 23-man list for the Copa América Centenario, which will be held in the United States.

Manager Tite chose Casemiro for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in May of 2018. He made his competitive debut on June 17, playing 60 minutes in a 1-1 group stage draw against Switzerland.

Club Career

His first profesional goal came in a 2-2 tie with Belo Horizonte’s Cruzeiro Esporte Clube. He was also a member of the club’s Copa Sudamericana winning side in 2012, making one appearance off the bench in their 5-0 quarter-final second-leg victory over Club Universidad de Chile.

Casemiro, a full international since 2011, represented Brazil in three Copa América tournaments, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup, winning the 2019 Copa América.

He made his club debut on August 27th, coming on as a substitute in a Premier League win at Southampton. On October 22, he scored his first Premier League goal with a header in the 94th minute of a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

On February 4, Casemiro received a red card for violent conduct during a match against Crystal Palace for putting his hands around Will Hughes’ neck following a dispute in which Antony and Jeffrey Schlupp were also yellow-carded.

This resulted in a three-match domestic ban; United went on to win 2-1. Man Utd won the EFL Cup on February 26, Casemiro’s first trophy at the club and United’s first since 2017, with Casemiro scoring the opening goal in the 33rd minute of the final 2-0 win over Newcastle United. His performance earned him the Alan Hardaker Trophy.

On March 12, Casemiro was sent off for a tackle on Carlos Alcaraz in a match against Southampton, where referee Anthony Taylor overturned his initial yellow card decision for a straight red card following a VAR review, and Casemiro received a four-game suspension; Manchester United would go on to draw the match 0-0.

Casemiro would be the only Premier League player to receive two red cards in the 2022-23 season, as well as the only Manchester United player to do so.

On his 100th appearance in European competitions, on September 20, 2023, he scored twice in a 4-3 loss to Bayern Munich in the first match of the 2023-24 Champions League season.
