We have been informed that Manchester United should aim to recruit Lucas Paqueta this summer, a player reportedly interested in Manchester City, and that he might be instrumental in turning around the club’s fortunes.
The Red Devils are in fourth position heading into this weekend’s games, after a harrowing season under Erik ten Hag. They are eleven points behind Tottenham. Also, the Premier League is now in third position, behind Germany and Italy, so if Manchester United finish lower than fourth next season, they will not be eligible to participate in UEFA’s top table.
Even for Ten Hag, whose own future at Old Trafford seems precariously poised, the repercussions of that might be devastating.
It was reported on Saturday morning by a commentator that Ten Hag was ‘certainly’ going to be fired and that the Dutchman may get a huge new position in Europe once he was fired.
The appointment of Dan Ashworth as the club’s first-ever sports director and the possibility of a new manager have prompted speculation about who players United may recruit this summer to bolster their roster for the next season.
According to popular belief, the club’s new minority stakeholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is looking to shore up the defence by adding a central defender, a midfielder, and a striker.
The club would be thrilled to add a fresh right winger to their roster if possible, joining Jaidon Sancho and Facundo Pellistri in their desire to move on.
Manchester United should make a big move for Lucas Paqueta.
Nevertheless, according to BBC commentator Nigel Reo-Coker, United should set even loftier goals and spend lavishly to get Paqueta, a new playmaker, this summer.
Despite being one of West Ham’s most promising players, the Brazilian is often linked to lucrative transfers away from the club, with Pep Guardiola being one of his many fans.
As the Citizens of Manchester consider their options without Kevin De Bruyne, who is a highly sought-after target for teams in Saudi Arabia this summer, rumours have it that they will submit a massive £75 million bid for his services.
But according to Reo-Coker, United should compete with City to acquire the 44-time capped Brazil player, who is widely considered a potential Ballon d’Or contender, and his signing might change United’s fortunes.
“We talk about the players Man Utd have got rid of,” he stated on BBC Radio 5 Live’s The Friday Football Social [12 April, 7:58pm].
There are players available that could help them get off the ground if they had a strategy and could bring in some younger players to bolster the team for the future.
Meanwhile, Paqueta is playing for West Ham. I believe he’s a versatile player who could end up on any squad and one of the few contemporary players with Ballon d’Or potential.
Of course, United already have a top-notch No. 10 in Bruno Fernandes, but if the Brazilian were to sign, United could easily accommodate Paqueta by switching up their structure.
Nevertheless, the 26-year-old Rio de Janeiro both star is versatile enough to play off either wing if needed.
The evidence of his abilities is clear: he has scored six goals and assisted on four more in 25 Premier League games this season. Given that the player is such a diligent worker off the ball, it’s little wonder he’s in such great demand.
