Manchester United might be missing up to 13 players for Wednesday’s Premier League game against Sheffield United. On Sunday afternoon, the Red Devils advanced to the FA Cup final after defeating Championship side Coventry City in a penalty shootout.
Man United squandered a three-goal lead in the semi-final, forcing the game to penalties, which Erik ten Hag’s team won 4-2 to go to the final against Manchester City.
Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay both hobbled off at Wembley Stadium, and the duo are now serious concerns for the team’s next Premier League match against Sheffield United.
Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay were both forced off in the FA Cup semi-final.
There will also be concerns over Harry Maguire, who seemed to aggravate a groyne issue during the game against Coventry in the English capital.
Maguire completed the 120-minute game, although he seemed to be in agony during extra time and will be evaluated before his participation against Sheffield United is determined.
Tyrell Malacia, Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and Raphael Varane will all be unavailable for Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Mason Mount, Sofyan Amrabat, and Willy Kambwala were all absent for the 20-time English winners at Wembley owing to fitness concerns.
As a consequence, 13 players may be missing when Manchester United face the Premier League’s worst club.
Who will play central defence against Sheffield United?
At this point, it is uncertain if Kambwala will be available, but if he is and Maguire demonstrates his health, the two will play in the centre of the defence against Sheffield United.
However, both might be out, posing a significant challenge for Ten Hag in that section of the field.
Casemiro began well against Coventry but struggled as the game went, and it is unclear if he will be employed as a centre-back again against Sheffield United.
Habeeb Ogunneye and Louis Jackson, both 18, are the next in line to play in the heart of the defence, and they might make their first-team debuts next week.
Fellow teenagers Harry Amass, a left-back, and striker Ethan Wheatley will also be hoping to play after making the team against Coventry.
