How Chelsea can now secure Europa League qualification after Palace thrash Man Utd

Crystal Palace gave Chelsea a huge favour Friday night by thumping Manchester United 4-0 in the Premier League, so Chelsea would have been closely observing the match.

Because of this, Chelsea are in a strong position to qualify for the Europa League this season, which may ensure that Mauricio Pochettino remains in charge of the club.

After Friday night’s game, Chelsea moved up to seventh position in the Premier League, one spot above of United according to goal differential.

London Football report Due to Germany and Italy claiming the extra Champions League qualification spots, next season’s restructured tournament will only include the top four Premier League teams. To catch up to Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City, Aston Villa need only three more points from their remaining two games.

Only Unai Emery’s Tottenham Hotspur team has a shot of finishing in the top four. Teams finishing in fifth place will not have to play any extra pre-qualifiers; instead, they will move directly into the Europa League following season.

Fifth place is still within reach, even if Chelsea is six points behind Spurs with a few games left to play. Nevertheless, it is quite improbable that Newcastle, Manchester United, and Tottenham would all lose points, which would be great news for the Blues.

Even though Chelsea won’t be playing in the FA Cup final, the tournament is still a blessing in disguise for the club. The FA Cup is a qualifying tournament for the Europa League. The slot in the Europa League will be given to the English top-flight club that is not already participating in Europe if the winners of the Premier League finish in the top five and qualify for either the Champions League or the Europa League.

Even if they don’t rank in the top five, Manchester United may still qualify for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup. The Europa Conference League is awarded to the team finishing in sixth place.

However, the fifth and sixth placed teams will get Europa League qualifying if Manchester City wins the FA Cup, while the seventh placed club would receive Europa Conference League qualification. With a win against Manchester United at Wembley, Pep Guardiola’s Chelsea can still finish in seventh place and earn a spot in Europe.
