Premier League manager Roberto De Zerbi gives the go-ahead to Brighton & Hove Albion
Notable points
Roberto De Zerbi has “big admirers” at Manchester United and INEOS.
Against United on Sunday, De Zerbi took command of Brighton & Hove Albion in his last game in charge.
This summer, United may examine Erik ten Hag’s future with the Italian manager at their disposal.
After Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Manchester United, Roberto De Zerbi departed Brighton and Hove Albion, and writer Anil Kandola claims that United are “big admirers” of De Zerbi.
At the end of the season assessment, United’s eighth-place finish will undoubtedly be scrutinized, despite the victory over the Seagulls on the last day of the top-flight season. This is their lowest ever Premier League result.
Wembley next Saturday will host the FA Cup final between Erik ten Hag’s team and Manchester City. The winner will get next season’s European football and a trophy.
At INEOS, De Zerbi Has ‘Big Admirers.’
Man United might be interested in signing 44-year-old Italian attacker Paulo De Zerbi after his shock exit from the Amex this week, as reported by Kandola on his ‘X’ account. De Zerbi had been linked to various jobs leading up to the summer transfer window.
As a potential successor to Ten Hag should he be released of his responsibilities at the conclusion of the season, Kandola claims that De Zerbi is highly esteemed at Old Trafford and inside the INEOS hierarchy. Pep Guardiola has praised De Zerbi’s “unique” playing style.
What did he say?
Roberto De Zerbi’s departure from Brighton has sparked rumors that he might be connected to the Manchester United position in the coming days.
“I’m told he has big admirers within the INEOS structure and fits the mould of what the new ownership are looking for…”
In the previous season, he guided Brighton to a sixth-place finish and a spectacular Europa League campaign. However, this season, he led the club to an 11th-place finish and an elimination from Europe at the hands of AS Roma in the round of 16.
Ten Hag Is Interested by Ajax and Bayern Munich
Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford is still up in the air, but if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company decide to fire him at the end of the season, the Dutchman is sure to get plenty of offers.
The 54-year-old manager is reportedly being considered for a transfer by Bayern Munich and Ajax, which are both previous clubs of Ten Hag.
After Thomas Tuchel turned down the opportunity to stay at the Allianz Arena and Graham Potter turned down the chance to take over at Ajax earlier this month, Bayern is still seeking a new coach to replace him.
Ironically, if the position at Old Trafford were to become vacant, both Tuchel and Potter would be strong candidates; Tuchel in particular would want the job since he longs to return to the Premier League after being let go by Chelsea.
