As Sir Jim Ratcliffe struggles to restock Manchester United’s roster without violating Premier League profit and sustainability regulations, the club may resort to adding players on free transfers this summer. Their inability to make the Champions League is a financial setback for Ratcliffe’s hopes of bringing in players of his own, and the club may have to release some high-paid stars in the next transfer window to reduce their salary cost.
Even if Kylian Mbappe is the most famous player whose contract is up at the end of the season, he is not going to Old Trafford because of his pay demands and rumors that a deal with Real Madrid has already been signed. On the other hand, United’s upper management has access to smarter options, one of which stands out sarcastically.
Adrien Rabiot
The midfielder was supposedly in talks to join United from Juventus for £20 million a year ago, but the transfer fell through. The 29-year-old, on the other hand, stayed around with the Old Lady and made 31 appearances for the team in the 2023–24 season, despite not committing to a new deal.
Mason Mount has been ineffective since joining from Chelsea in the summer, while Casemiro’s form and health problems have received plenty of attention this season. The French international is still very much a top-tier talent, therefore the Red Devils will undoubtedly be connected with him again.

Piotr Zielinski
United might find a solution to their engine room problems in Napoli star Piotr Zielnski if a trade for Adrián Rabiot does not materialize. Although his impact in his eighth and maybe last season in Naples has diminished, the 29-year-old is still a calm and seasoned figure; he was crucial to Napoli’s 2022–23 Serie A championship run.
Poland has given him 88 caps at the international level, and he has the drive and determination that many United players have been said to be missing lately. An excellent choice.
Wilfred Ndidi
Old Trafford would have seen that Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester can leave for free in exactly two months. The Nigerian superstar is another player who might provide stability to United’s midfield without costing a fortune. He has already shown his mettle at the Premier League level and recently inspired Leicester to return to the top tier with their Championship championship success.
Rafa Silva is a striker who has flown under the radar in European football this season, but Rasmus Hojlund has showed glimpses of the quality that convinced United to pay £72 million on him last year. If United want a reliable backup, Silva is a good choice. As his contract with Benfica nears its end, the 30-year-old has scored 20 goals in 49 games. He is also unlikely to demand exorbitant compensation, having won Euro 2016 with Portugal.
Tosin Adarabioyo
The Fulham center defender’s impressive play this season has brought back memories of his four years with Manchester City and his many appearances for England at different age groups. United would be wise to acquire the 26-year-old midfielder since he is still in the prime of his career, Raphael Varane is leaving, and Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez are often out with injuries.
