Altay Bayindir joined Ankaragücü in November 2018 at the age of 20, quickly establishing himself as the team’s primary goalkeeper and playing a key role in the club’s consecutive promotion to the Süper Lig in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, respectively.
On July 8, 2019, Bayındır signed a four-year contract with Fenerbahçe. Bayındır became the first-choice goalkeeper over teammate Harun Tekin.
On August 19, 2019, he made his Fenerbahçe debut in a 5-0 victory over Gaziantep at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
On October 3, 2020, Bayındır saved a penalty from Erik Sabo in Fenerbahçe’s 2-1 victory over Fatih Karagümrük.
Furthermore, on December 6, 2020, he saved another penalty, from Radosław Murawski, in a week 11 clash against Denizlispor, which Fenerbahçe won 2–0.
After Serdar Aziz was sent off, Fenerbahçe was reduced to ten men for the duration of the match. In all, he produced seven saves.
Bayındır was hurt in a collision with Serdar Gürler in the 69th minute of a 2-1 away defeat to Konyaspor on October 30, 2021. He was replaced by Berke Özer.

Bayındır represents Turkey’s under-20 team in the 2018 Toulon Tournament. On November 9, 2020, Şenol Güneş called up Bayındır to the senior Turkish national team for UEFA Nations League matches against Hungary and Russia.
